Metal Containers
Our metal container business is engaged in the manufacture and sale of steel and aluminum containers that are used primarily by processors and packagers for food products such as soup, vegetables, fruit, meat, tomato based products, coffee, seafood, adult nutritional drinks, pet food and other miscellaneous food products, as well as for general line products such as chemicals. We estimate that approximately 90% of our projected U.S. metal food container sales in 2012 will be pursuant to multi-year customer supply arrangements, including agreements with Nestlé, Campbell and several other major food processors.
For 2011, our metal food container business had net sales of $2.21 billion. We are a leading supplier of metal containers in North America and Europe, and we are the largest manufacturer of metal food containers in North America with a unit volume market share in the United States of approximately half of the market in 2011.
