Through our Metal Containers segment, we produce the most sustainable, energy efficient, recyclable and cost effective food packaging available.

For 2023, our metal container business had net sales of $3.1 billion, representing a compounded annual growth rate of approximately 7.2 percent since our founding in 1987. Our steel food containers are the most recycled food and beverage package in the world and are infinitely recyclable. Additionally, our metal containers are produced with as much as 77% recycled content and are 100% recyclable. Since the products packaged in our metal containers do not require refrigeration to maintain peak freshness, food packaged in our metal containers requires far less total energy and results in lower total system-wide waste than fresh or frozen food packaging formats. We are the largest manufacturer of metal food containers in North America, with a unit volume market share in the United States in 2023 of more than half of the market. We also produce and sell metal food and general line cans in Europe.

Metal containers

Our metal containers are used primarily by processors and packagers for food products such as pet food, vegetables, soup, proteins, tomato based products, fruit and other miscellaneous food products, as well as for general line products. Given the benefits our metal containers provide to our customers and the environment, our business has a long history of supplying to many of the largest brands in canned food, and we estimate that approximately 90% of our projected North American metal container sales in 2023 will be pursuant to long term, multi-year customer supply arrangements.
